Bajaj Auto has made headlines with the launch of the world’s first CNG motorcycle, the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG. This groundbreaking bike is available in three variants and is priced from Rs 95,000 to Rs 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Available in seven distinct color options, this innovative motorcycle is set to revolutionize the market.
Variants and Features
The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG is offered in three variants: Drum, Drum LED, and Disc LED. Each variant is designed to cater to different preferences and requirements, ensuring there is a suitable option for every rider. The motorcycle boasts a minimalist yet rugged design, featuring a full LED headlamp, LED tail light, halogen indicators, and a monochrome LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. One of the standout features is its dual fuel tanks, providing the flexibility to switch between CNG and petrol.
Engine and Performance
At the heart of the Freedom 125 CNG is a 125cc horizontally mounted single-cylinder engine capable of running on both CNG and petrol. This bi-fuel powertrain generates 9.5 hp and 9.7 Nm of torque. Riders can easily switch between fuels using a switch located on the left side of the handlebar, allowing for seamless transitions on the go.
The motorcycle is equipped with a 2L petrol tank and a 2 kg CNG tank positioned under the seat. The CNG tank, securely placed within a trellis frame, weighs 18 kilograms when full. Bajaj claims an impressive mileage of 102 km per kg for CNG and 65 km per liter for petrol, giving the bike a combined range of 330 km.
Safety and Specifications
Weighing in at 149 kg, the Freedom 125 CNG is 18 kg heavier than the CT 125X. It features an 825 mm seat height and a spacious 785 mm long seat, ensuring comfort for the rider. The motorcycle is equipped with telescopic forks at the front and a linked rear mono-shock for a smooth ride.
Safety is a top priority for Bajaj, especially considering the potential risks associated with a CNG powertrain. The CNG tank is fortified with various protective cages and a robust trellis frame. The motorcycle has passed 11 different tests, including impact and crash tests. Bajaj has even showcased a video demonstrating a truck driving over the motorcycle without igniting it, emphasizing its safety.
Color Options, Bookings, and Export Plans
The Freedom 125 CNG comes in seven dual-tone color options, distributed across the three variants. Bookings are currently open, and deliveries are set to begin soon. Bajaj also plans to export this innovative motorcycle to several countries, including Egypt, Tanzania, Colombia, Peru, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
With the introduction of the Freedom 125 CNG, Bajaj Auto has not only pioneered a new segment in the motorcycle market but also provided an eco-friendly and economical transportation solution. The combination of safety, performance, and versatility makes the Freedom 125 CNG a promising addition to Bajaj’s lineup and a significant step towards sustainable mobility.
